Cityscapes

This series was an attempt to merge Impressionistic styles with jazz and musical impulses.  The urban landscape scenes that I painted emphasized the animated and vibrant personality of city streets.  In 2005, my work was showcased in a book entitled “Unveiled, Series 1: Photography by Will Downing and Fine Art by New and Emerging African American Artists.”  In Unveiled, Nikki Greene writes about Marcel's paintings: “Elemental and provocative, Marcel Taylor makes the city night his own.  His work is Cool, his compositions deft expressions of rain soaked streets….And also like the music of Thelonius Sphere, his art is of this world but of his own private one as well....His urban landscapes are mythic, pit stops on a journey through streets given over to neon and distant thunder fading fast.”
