My current work embodies my intimate and sometimes troublesome relationship with the city.  Over the last few years, I have witnessed many urban communities withstand amazing, but sometimes disturbing, transformations.  My latest paintings specifically reflect this ceaseless trend. The city in which I reside, Washington DC, exists in a state of flux as new construction reshapes the horizon.  Urban development is a mixed blessing.  On one hand, investment creates commerce and revitalizes neglected neighborhoods. However, when development spins out of control, gentrification and displacement processes takeover, often eroding the existing cultural landscape.  This is the paradox that I attempt to convey in my work.
